چکیده

The observed properties of young star clusters, such as the core radius and luminosity profile, change rapidly during the early evolution of the clusters. Here we present observations of 6 young clusters in M51 where we derive their sizes using HST imaging and ages using deep Gemini-North spectroscopy. We find evidence for a rapid expansion of the cluster cores during the first 20 Myr of their evolution. We confirm this trend by including data from the literature of both Galactic and extra-galactic embedded and young clusters, and possible mechanisms (rapid gas removal, stellar evolutionary mass-loss, and internal dynamical heating) are discussed. We explore the implications of this result, focussing on the fact that clusters were more concentrated in the past, implying that their stellar densities were much higher and relaxation times (trelax) correspondingly shorter. Thus, when estimating if a particular cluster is dynamically relaxed, (i.e. when determining if a cluster’s mass segregation is due to primordial or dynamical processes), the current relaxation time is only an upper-limit, with trelax likely being significantly shorter in the past.

Explaining the Presence of Narrow-faced Bladelet Cores in Izeh Chipped Stone Assemblages and its relation to Population/Idea Movements in Late Pleistocene

Abstract: Several models of population/culture movements have been proposed based on bladelet production in Late Pleistocene of Eurasia. Narrow-faced bladelet/microblade cores, also known as "wedge shaped" cores in Central Asia and Far East studies, have been considered as a component of an inter-continent migration of people and idea which originated in Sibero-Mongolian region Upper Paleolithi...

Flow and Pressure Distributions in Short Heat Exchanger Cores with Abrupt Entrance and Exit

The typical installation of a heat exchange device usually involves a flow contraction at the core entrance and a flow expansion at the core exit. Repeated flow Contraction and expansion are experienced in the flow passages of some compact heat exchangers. The latter refers to the flow passages in the plate-fin type with louvered fins or stripped fins and in the tubular type with dimpled-circul...

The role of spatial changes of employment and activity in creating the lack of appropriate urban cores (case study; Tehran)

Background and objective: The spatial structure of cities depends on the different and mutual relationships of all forces and factors in the city. These factors include market forces, activities, urban infrastructures and various services, which always have a complex and reciprocal relationship. In today's world, one of the basic challenges in cities is to create a balanced spatial structure th...

Early settelment of the Holocene in the Kohgiluye region

Introduction The transition from hunter-gatherer to farmer- herder is one of the most important issues in archaeological research of the Holocene period. The Zagros region of Iran, especially its central parts, has had an important role in initial phases of Neolithic research in Iran. Until a decade ago, lack of evidence on the transitional period between the end of the EpiPalaeolithic period ...
